I'm Dreaming of....

Seeing this new painting

Kurt and I have been going to plays at Pioneer Theater for years.  We always enjoy looking at the art during intermission and now five of my paintings are there.

About Last Night

Thank you to everyone who came to Lamplight last night!  We had a great turn out and four paintings sold plus a few more are under serious consideration.

These are photos of my work hung in the gallery with beautiful flowers done by one of the other gallery members Scott Durant.  He is seriously talented in the flower department (that is in addition to his fine art talent.)  He always does an arrangement that compliments the art work.

We also had some great food last night.  (photos were taken before the food was put out.)  I made hot artichoke dip, fresh baguettes, killer bean dip, and the original Davis County school lunch peanut butter bar cookies.  Others brought fresh fruit, chips and salsa, cheeses, cookies and a great punch.

I have had a few requests from people not able to attend as to how they can see my work.

The obvious answer would be my art website, but for now I am not able to put up the new images (Technical difficulties, kind of a long story.  Hopefully I will be up and running again by Tuesday.)

I have also not photographed all of this current body of work.  (working on that too)  So, I will be putting some of the images I do have up on this blog for the time being.

Once again thanks to all the friends, family and kind strangers who came to the gallery last night.

FYI - The show will be up through November.  If you want to stop by the gallery is open 10-5 Tuesday through Saturday.

Artist's Statement for Do You See What I See

Still Life, Do you see what I see?

My husband used to say on a regular basis, “When is our life going to calm down?”

The answer to that question is that it is not going to calm down, or if it does we will be sad that it is over and miss the rollercoaster ride that used to be.

My first love in terms of subject matter for a painting is and always has been the human figure. You may notice that there are not any discernable human forms in this current body of work. It is precisely because my life is not still or even slow that I am instead doing still life painting.

I am searching for the “still” moments in my life, a pause, a chance to take a breath and unwind. My goal is not necessarily to depict objects, but rather to evoke a feeling of peace, beauty and calm. I have always been keenly aware of those golden moments when time stands still and all is right with the world. They can happen anytime if we are open to them, even in the midst of chaos. As a visual person it is usually an image or a color that triggers these moments for me. I think that is why I have gravitated towards still life during this time. It is in an effort to still my life for just a moment.

In asking the question “Do you see what I see,” I am asking the viewer to find that moment of peace and also to find the abstract in the image or the image in the abstract.

What do you think?  I would love feedback on this.

Love,
Gail

It's all part of the job...

It is my understanding that it is perfectly NORMAL for an artist in the final sprint of getting ready for a show (or two in my case) to let a few things go.

Things such as:
  • blogging
  • cooking
  • cleaning
  • reading
  • socializing
  • laundry
  • sleep
  • sanity
  • breathing
(you know, just the small and insignificant things)

I will be the featured artist at Lamplight Art Gallery in Bountiful for the month of October.
Artist Reception October 8th
6:00p.m. - 9:00p.m.
(I will post a copy of the e-vite as soon as I get it)

I will also be part of a group show in the Loge Gallery at Pioneer Theater for their holdiay musical
"White Christmas" (More info to come)

I will also be participating in the Bountiful/Davis Art Center Holiday Show (More info to come)
